Comments from Dan |
| They say
that “April showers bring May flowers.” Springtime is here which
means everything is blooming and changing.
The same is true here at
Ventriloquist Central.
When we started the Ventriloquist Central email newsletter, we use
to send out periodical emails to let you know what was happening.
Then as things progressed, we started the blog and later created a
fan page on Facebook and thought that would be a good way of getting
information to you about Ventriloquist Central and the art of
ventriloquism.
Well, evidently you want more.
It seems with all the content we have on the website, blog and
Facebook, a good majority of you are missing some news items, some
interesting information, or you just don’t have enough time to
search everything. We’ve been getting emails and phone calls asking
us to start sending out occasional emails again to let you know
“what’s going on.”
Steve and I talked this over and we’ve decided to start the emails
back up on a more periodical schedule. For those of you that are
saying, “Wait, I already get too many emails”, DON’T PANIC.
We’re not going to inundate you with tons of emails (actually we
don’t have the time in our own lives to do that). Trust me we know
how that is and we will not do that to you. Our plan is to send an
email per week or every other week (depending on the events at that
time).
Occasionally, we may send another email during that time if
something of merit calls for it. But, as I said, we will NOT be
flooding your inbox with lots of emails. We will be respectful of
your time and not overflow you with emails.
Because we have so many people that keep signing up every day, it’s
hard for us to know who has or hasn’t seen certain information that
might be prevalent at that time. So if you get an email about
something you already knew, please accept our apologizes upfront.
Our main goal is to keep you informed as much as possible. And if
for whatever reason, you decide you don’t want to receive any more
emails you receive from us, at the bottom of each email is a link
for you to unsubscribe and you’ll be taken off the list. It’s that
easy.
As a reminder, we do our best to post a blog every day, plus if
you’re on Facebook, please become a fan.
And…as always, if you have any information that you would like to
share with us, we’d be happy to post it on the blog or put it up on
the website.
Enjoy the rest of the newsletter.

The Reason Ventriloquism is Still Going Strong
My partner and webmaster, Steve Hurst
wrote this “essay” on some of his thoughts about ventriloquism and I

Frank
Marshall And Wigs For His Ventriloquist Figures
I have written blogs in the past about
wigs for ventriloquist figures and I certainly have mentioned Frank
Marshall but I have not done one specifically on his wigging. So
because of a special request I am doing so now.

Photos of the Ventriloquist Central Collection
I have been asked quite a few times to
show pictures of the Ventriloquist Central Collection in its
entirety and unfortunately, that I am not able to do but, I thought
you may like seeing some shots of the collection which is around the
room. If you link them all together is gives you sort of a panoramic
view.

Charlie McCarthy in all his Glory
Everyone who has any interest at all
in ventriloquism today knows who Charlie McCarthy is and if not then
they live under a rock and haven’t ventured into the light of day
for half a century.

Ventriloquist Collector Caught Off Guard
I practice my guitar in the
Ventriloquist Central Collection room. That way I always have an
audience and they always approve of any song I play. One day while I
was in my practice session (I do play every day to keep my fingers
limber) without my knowledge my son Jason grabbed the video camera,
grabbed Bob Isaacson’s “Mortimer Snerd” and did a recording.

all out, just in case you might have missed one.

“The ULTIMATE Guide To
Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”
"Steve's course is very
good too! You can actually see projects being worked on
and see how he handles them instead of just reading
about it (not that the books aren't worth having too!)."
Gary Koepke

“The ULTIMATE
Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1” is a
step-by-step system from start to finish, so you can create your
very own ventriloquist figure. Now you can become a
ventriloquist figure builder. This guide will answers all your
questions, show you all the short-cuts, and give you a quick and
easy paint-by-the-numbers way to making your own ventriloquist
figure-- even if you don’t think you can do it.
"Hi Steve,
I purchased the “The ULTIMATE Guide To Building Your Own
Ventriloquist Figure, Volume 1”, from you last year and
have finished my dummy now.
It has not taken that long to do but I have only been
able to do little bits to it here and there so thats
where the months have gone.
I would love to take this opportunity to thank you for
putting this course together. Building a dummy has been
a long term ambition of mine right from child hood when
I used to make cardboard dummies.
Now all I need to finish the one I have made from your
course is to clothe him. As soon as I have clothes for
him I will send some photos for you to see.
Any way thanks again and look forward to hearing from
you in the future."

"Steve, I purchased
your Ultimate Guide To Building Your Own
Ventriloquist Figure Vol.1 DVD's just over five
months ago. Let me first say, these are a MUST HAVE! I
have always wanted to build my own figure and your DVD's
gave me the confidence to get started as well as
valuable information with the whole process! I took your
advice on using the Fast Mache' method and it works!
That advice in itself saved me a lot of frustration
since this was my first time at figure making. I now
know I can begin my second figure and it will be even
more exciting than the first one. The information in the
Ultimate Guide DVD's are invaluable! I enjoy watching
them over and over again to gain more insight on figure
building. I can't wait to get into the mold making
process and duplicate one of my own figure heads! The
Ultimate Guide DVD's were exactly what I was looking for
and needed! Thanks so much for creating them. You truly
are an inspiration to me with all the nuts and bolts of
information you share in order to produce a
ventriloquist figure."
Thanks Again!

Punch and Judy Puppets

closely related and this set was so nice I just had to have it.

Ventriloquist Central Video Collecting Series – Scott Bryte’s
“Corky” Figure
We’ve posted numerous blogs about the
wonderful talent of ventriloquist figure maker Pastor Scott Bryte
and his handcarved creation “Corky”. As you should know by now,
“Corky” is now part of the Ventriloquist Central Collection. Since
that happened, I’ve been swamped with emails wanting to see a video
of “Corky”, so here it is.

Final Thoughts |
|
I have to tell you I am in the dumps. “Why is that?”, you ask. The
answer is because as a collector you have an obsession to acquire
and right at the present time that has been rather slow for me. In a
drug users terms I need a fix.
I need a Marshall figure to once again grace my collection and
become the newest member of this great family. I love the excited
feeling I get when a new Marshall arrives but all kidding aside ANY
new (old) figure will give me the same feeling. I want them all.
So if you are reading this and you have a figure that is no longer
bringing you the joy of performance or is just collecting dust in a
closet or the attic or ,heavens I hope not, in the cellar, let me
know and maybe your neglected ventriloquist figure can become part
of the Ventriloquist Central Collection.
Let me know what you may have.
Till next time,
Dan |
